Before its launch, India was dependent over foreign satellite likeINMARSAT.
by its launch India’s dependency over on foreign satellite.
It is successfully launched by the ESA (European space agency) from the French Guiana off the pacific cost and put into the geosynchronous transfer or orbit.
It is launched by the ARIANE-5 ROCKET.(note that GSAT-7 was ISRO’s 17th satellite which was lifted by ariane rocket. ISRO’s 1st satellite which was lifted by ariane rocket was APPLE).
The cost of ariane rocket is 470 crore, while the total cost ofGSAT-7 IS 950 crore.
It provide the navigation system to the ships.
The spacecraft is consisted with UHF(ultra high frequency) band, ku band, s band, and c band to navigate the Indian navy’s warships.
The ultra high frequency band had never been used until now in an Indian communication satellite. This give a long sweep of intelligence network or what is called COMINT/ELINT(communication intelligence/electronic intelligence)on moving non land platform.
Ku band allow high density data transmission, including voice and video. A108 amperes hour lithium ion battery is also inbuilt to keep function during eclipse.
It is the last of ISRO’s 4th generation series of seven satellite.
Around 2014-15 a new version of the satellite GSAT-7A will be launched to share with air force and army.
